Configuration of the BILDSpeed-Stick HUAWEI E1762 running Debian Lenny

  1. Prerequisites: UMTSMon 0.9 und ModeSwitch
  2. Install UMTSMon und ModeSwitch
  3. Connect cour computer with the SpeedStick
  4. Wait until the SpeedStick is recognized what you can verify with lsusb
  5. Write down vendor and product id, is given right after ID, Example: Bus 007 Device 003: ID 12d1:1446 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. Here: vendor id: 0x12d1: product id: 1446
  6. "Type: usb_modeswitch -v 0x12d1 -p 0x1446 -V 0x12d1 -P 0x140c -M "55534243000000000000000000000011060000000000000000000000000000" -s 5 " Vendor id is given by -v, product id by p, eventually you should replace those values if you obtained other values for vendor and product id
    7. The result should be: Mode switch succeeded. Bye.
  7. If not try again, eventually detach and attach the stick
  8. Now enter: modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x140c
  9. Now /dev/ttyUSB0 should be visible what you can check with: ls /dev/ttyUSB0, if not then something went wrong.
  10. Type umtsmon -s /dev/ttyUSB0,/dev/ttyUSB0
  11. Enter your PIN
  12. Create a new profile.
  13. APN: event.vodafone.de.
  14. Click on: No authorisation.
  15. Username:vodafone.
  16. Passwort:vodafone.
  17. Save profile.
  18. Select connect from the menu.
  19. Open a webbrowser.
  20. Chose one of the surf packages offered on the Webpage.
